Law
Accredited and qualifying law courses with superb work experience opportunitiesWe are ranked 12th in the UK for Teaching Quality in Law by the Sunday Times (2022).
Many of our teachers are qualified solicitors and barristers, passing on their insights, real-world case expertise and passion for law to the next generation of legal minds.
Many of our graduates go on to become solicitors or barristers. Additionally, changes in the legal services market are creating a rising demand for additional roles, such as paralegals and legal executives.
We have strong links with the local legal profession, particularly through the South London Law Society and the Southwark Legal Advice Network, as well as with our own graduates practising across London and beyond.
A law degree is not just for aspiring lawyers. Law graduates are sought after in a wide range of sectors because of their exceptional analytical and communications skills.
As well as developing in-depth legal knowledge and academic skills, there is a strong emphasis on experiential learning and legal education for professional practice and the enhancement of professional career prospects.
Whatever career route you choose to take, our Law degree programmes provide opportunities for students to become more employable
What is it like studying Law at LSBU?
Our approach to teaching includes an important focus on experiential learning (learning by doing) and clinical legal education (learning by giving supervised legal advice to local people). One of our lecturers, Andy Unger, was recently nominated for the Oxford University Press Law Teacher of the Year (LTOTY) award. The award celebrates excellence in law teaching and Andy was a finalist. This video was made by OUP as part of the LTOTY award process. It gives a very good idea of what it is like to study Law at LSBU.

Opportunities to give back to society
The School has a strong commitment to social justice and social conscience – and this comes through strongly in the courses we offer. However, it's not just evident in what we teach, but also how we teach it.
The Legal Advice Clinic offers our law students exceptional work experience opportunities, but it also provides a valued public service to the local community. There's a similar narrative behind StreetLaw, which is an outreach initiative where our law students engage with local school and college students to encourage them to better understand their legal rights and responsibilities.
"By taking law into the classroom, LSBU law students get the opportunity to engage school and college students with the law and how it affects them," explains Louise Andronicou, Principal Lecturer in Law. "LSBU students participating in the project also get this opportunity to give something back to their community, at the same time improving their legal skills and employability."
