Overview

Learn to provide specialist musculoskeletal care.

Expert and effective chiropractic care can make all the difference to those living in pain and discomfort. If you are a strong communicator who can empathise with others with an interest in the human body, our Integrated Masters in Chiropractic programme will help you take the first steps towards becoming a specialist in musculoskeletal spinal care. Chiropractic students will study at the Southwark LSBU campus during their first year and at both Southwark and Croydon campuses in years 2, 3 and 4.

LSBU is a university located in the heart of central London, allowing me to explore the city, meet new people, and find new opportunities alongside my studies. Whilst expanding my knowledge in chiropractic care, I am supported by university resources on campus, like Croydon Chiropractic Clinic. These combine classroom and practical learning using a range of pathology cases we might face in the future and introduce us to clinical practice.” Nathan Fung, Chiropractic student.

What sets us apart is our focus on real-world application. Not only can you undertake a work placement, but you will have the opportunity to work in the public-facing LSBU Chiropractic Clinic in your final year. You’ll work with real members of the public here, taking in their medical history, offering a diagnosis and recognising any health issues that might need to be referred for other types of care, while also offering lifestyle advice including nutrition and exercise as part of ongoing treatment.

This integrated approach to healthcare is integral to the degree and features heavily throughout the curriculum. You will learn to work in partnership with other health care professionals, gaining an expert understanding of patient centred healthcare and how chiropractic care can factor into the treatment and managing of musculoskeletal conditions.

What I love most about my course is how it makes me feel like I am becoming a chiropractor. It is exciting to be hands-on, learning to read X-rays, practising manipulations, and developing skills that I will use in the clinic. There is something incredibly satisfying about it, especially when a technique clicks or when I can see my progress. It is those moments that remind me why I chose this path in the first place.” Isa Gaibee, Chiropractic student.

To help you build your confidence and skill set you’ll hone your expertise in our purpose-built Chiropractic facilities, based on our Croydon Campus. Here you will be taught and guided by Chiropractic academics, all of whom are equally passionate about training the next generation of Chiropractors. Between them, the people you meet in clinical practice and your colleagues across the College of Health and Life Sciences, you’ll find a community of people ready to help you succeed.

This is the first step towards providing life-changing care. Become a qualified and accredited Chiropractic professional with our Intergrated Master’s Program. Apply today.

Teaching and Assessment

How will I learn?

This is a highly hands-on course that aims to feature real-world learning as much as possible, with other assessment methods such as lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, presentations and observational placement supporting these hands-on skills.

“During my time at LSBU, I have had the opportunity to complete chiropractic placements both within the university and externally. In my first year, I was based at the LSBU Chiropractic Clinic, where I shadowed fourth-year chiropractic students and gained insight into the clinical environment. In my second year, I was fortunate enough to secure an external placement at Chiro London in Marylebone, which gave me valuable exposure to a professional setting beyond the university and helped broaden my practical understanding of the field.”  Isa Gaibee, Chiropractic student.

Here’s a taster of what you will learn.

  • Chiropractic Techniques (1,2 and 3) -These modules develop your treatment skills in years 1,2 and 3 to ensure you are competent and confident to treat patients.
  • General and Clinical Development - These modules ensure you are able to recognise medical conditions and refer to other healthcare professionals as needed
  • Patient communication – communication plays a fundamental part in patient improvement and satisfaction across all of healthcare. We teach you how to build a strong and professional working relationship with your patients.

Groupwork and interprofessional learning will be key as well, helping you build transferable skills that will serve you well when dealing with patients, stakeholders and colleagues, regardless of what field you end up in. Assessments are via written final exams, in class course work, OSCEs and Vivas. For each 20 credit module students should be expected to undertake 200 hours of learning.

Our staff members have roles in clinical practice and research outside of teaching. This allows for the integration of contemporary clinical practice and research into our teaching. Transferable skills are developed through engagement with, and completion of tasks in the academic and clinical curriculum.  Interprofessional learning, group activities, practical skills development using simulation, and problem-based approaches in the academic environment will be supplemented and enhanced by clinical placement experience as part of a blended learning approach.

Diagnosis specifically is important in helping the health of the general public.
