We’re so excited to host Out for Sport this year as we welcome up to 40 LGBTQ+ grassroots sports clubs into our Student Union to promote their memberships and activities to the LGBTQ+ community. Pride in our staff & students
It’s Pride season and as in-person activities are back it’s time to celebrate. We’re excited to be attending several events over the coming months and we can’t wait to meet you all.
For us, Pride is a great opportunity to show our commitment to, and our pride in, all our LGBTQ+ staff and students across our family of institutions. including the university, South Bank Colleges and our academies.
It’s also another chance for LSBU to let every one of our future students and employees know that we’re the place for you. Making education accessible is at our very core and we proudly stand against homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and any form of discrimination, as we strongly believe there should be no barriers to brilliance.
We want to continue to provide an environment where you have access to opportunity; where you can rise higher than you ever thought possible, where you feel that you belong and where you can become the best version of yourself. Essex Pride – 25 June
This is our first time at Essex Pride – and we’re looking forward to kickstarting our official Pride activities there with an LSBU stand! You’ll get to meet colleagues from our Havering campus where we teach both Adult & Mental Health Nursing. You can also meet some of our other staff from across LSBU and find out about our other courses which are available at our Southwark and Croydon campuses plus our other institutions. Pride in London – 2 July
We’re delighted to be joining the parade again in the UK’s biggest pride event. Keep an eye out for us and give us a wave as we join thousands of others marching through the streets of London, celebrating Pride together! If you can’t make it, follow LSBU on Instagram where we’ll be sharing our adventures live throughout the day. You can see the route along with tons more info on the Pride in London website.
London Trans+ Pride – 9 July
Another first for us as we link up with several other universities to march through London to protest the injustices faced by trans+ people all over the world in this grassroots and powerful event. Croydon PrideFest – 16 July
With our new campus in Croydon, we had to have a presence at Croydon PrideFest! We’ll be joining the parade through the town centre and then onto Wandle Park for more entertainment and fun. We’ll have a stand where you can meet staff and students from our business and health courses, such as Adult Nursing and Chiropractic – plus we’ll have info on all the other courses we teach at both our Southwark and Havering campuses as well as other LSBU Group institutions. UK Black Pride – 14 August
Back in January, we awarded Lady Phyll, Co-Founder of UK Black Pride, with an Honorary Doctorate for her incredible work and efforts to tackle inequality & discrimination. So we’re super excited to be the Headline Sponsor of the Wellbeing Stage at UK Black Pride! We’ll be delivering a session to showcase our project looking at our mental health services at LSBU for our Black students as well as exploring the wider issues of closing the attainment gap and ensuring greater access to opportunities for Black students and staff across the education sector. We’ll also have a stand where you can meet our staff and students and find out more about life at LSBU so come say hi. Sign up for updates by visiting UK Black Pride website.
Life at LSBU
Location is everything and our city-campus in South London is the perfect place to study. We’re surrounded by the world’s biggest industries, and still offer our students a real community vibe, with plenty of shared spaces to learn and unwind. Not to mention having some of the capital’s rich history and culture right on our doorstep. We run open days throughout the year so you can come and see for yourself, take a campus tour and meet our talented academics and students – we hope to see you there.
Southwark isn’t our only base; we also have campuses in Havering and Croydon teaching a range of health and businesses courses, as well as our LSBU Group colleges and academies located across south London.
