£1,000 per year of study (pro-rata for pt) for undergraduate students, under 25 years meeting The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 definition of Care Leaver.

£1,000 per year of study (pro-rata for pt) for undergraduate students, under 25 years verified by Student Finance as ‘estranged from family’.

LSBU Estranged Student Bursary Guidance 2025/26 (PDF File 277 KB)
A minimum of £500 for each year of study (pro-rata for pt) for undergraduate students under 25 years old who provide unpaid care to a family member.

LSBU Young Adult Carer Award Guidance 2025/26 (PDF File 272 KB).
£1,000 in the first year of study (pro-rata for pt) for students who attended one of the LSBU Group institutions: South Bank Colleges, South Bank University Academy or South Bank University Sixth Form in 2024/25 and who successfully enrol on to an undergraduate programme (including a foundation year) at LSBU in 2025/26.

First year Engineering student:
“I wanted to say how important the LSBU Group Progression Award has been to me this year.
It made a genuine difference in helping me travel to university, afford basic meals while studying, and buy components to build and test real circuits for my course. I have been able to put these projects on my CV which will hopefully support my future career. Without this bursary I would have had to cut back on essential parts of my learning”.

£3,000 for 10 full-time undergraduate students with a West Indian or Asian background, supported by the Lawrence Burrows Education Trust, (£1,000 for each year of study).
LSBU’s discretionary hardship fund, open to all fully enrolled students on all programmes. Open all year round, see below for more information.
Alongside the financial awards, the above support packages also include a point of contact, access to one-to-one advice and guidance, support groups and priority opportunities across the university for a student’s duration of studies at LSBU, see below for more information.
Eligible students will be contacted automatically in the second half of semester one, and bursaries usually awarded in two instalments.
We ask students to 'tick the box' with UCAS, verify with Student Finance, and at LSBU share information on their enrolment application and complete the Personal Development Plan so the Student Advice Team can easily contact you. If in doubt, please get in touch with the team.
