Living costs and additional funding
Home students may be entitled to help with covering their living costs. Apply for a maintenance loan from SFE and it could help to pay for accommodation, travel, food, books and entertainment. EU students should check the gov.uk website to see if they're eligible as well.
Many of our students are eligible for additional funding from Student Finance, for example:
- Childcare Grant
- Parental Learning Allowance
- Students with adult dependent
- Students with disabilities – Please don’t forget to check out LSBU Disability & Dyslexia Support
For easy to digest info on maintenance loans, and support for living costs via Student Finance, the Student Advice Team also recommends looking over the UCAS webpages.
Claiming benefits
The rules concerning students and Universal Credit (state benefits) are complicated and depend on individual circumstances. There are also different rules for claiming benefits during term-time and holiday periods.
We advise all students receiving benefits, as well as those who think they mightbe eligible for certain benefits or tax credits, to seek advice from Citizens Advice and get extra support from the Student Advice Team.
