Meet Our Technicians
LSBU Technicians are a multidisciplinary team of technicians, sitting within the 3 Colleges, who provide specialist technical support to users of the discipline specific workshops, laboratories, and studio spaces across the LSBU Group.
We work across several academic schools supporting the diverse range of activities in over the 180 technical spaces, manage the safe and effective use of over £14 million of high–tech equipment, actively support the rich and vibrant research community at LSBU, and contribute to its exciting range of enterprise initiatives.
Our technical facilities are spread across the Southwark, Croydon, and Havering campuses and are closely aligned to the academic schools of Allied Health and Life Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Architecture and Planning, Engineering and Design, Construction Property and Surveying, Computer Science and Digital Technology and Nursing and Midwifery.
LSBU are proud signatories of the Technician Commitment, a sector wide initiative that aims to ensure the ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians working in higher education and research, across all disciplines.
Applied Sciences
Our technicians are a diverse group of experts, mostly scientists but also practitioners. We support the areas of Human Sciences, Psychology and The National Bakery School. The applied nature of the courses means we focus on the practical side of science and employ investigative and analytical skills in our activities. The team are continuously updating their skills to ensure students are exposed to leading-edge technology and have a rewarding practical experience in our laboratories.

The team also foster enquiring minds by supporting a wide range of Outreach activities.
Clinical Skills and Simulation
Who we are
The team provide technical support to the Nursing and Midwifery and Allied and Community Health Schools. It is vital that the technical team keep abreast of developments in healthcare. We do so by engaging with the Institute of Science and Technology, Institute of Technical Skills and Strategy, National Technician Development Centre, London Nursing Simulation Steering Group for HEIs (L-NSIM), the London & South-Eastern England TCI network, the London Simulation Network and Technical Managers in Universities network. Members of the technical team are registered science technicians (RSCI-Tech) and members of ASPiH (Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare). They attend the ASPiH and CAE Human Patient Simulation Network (HPSN) conferences.
Our professional development also includes internal and external training development opportunities such as Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeships, project management, first aid, equality diversity and inclusion, and a variety of external webinars.

It is a thriving part of the university and the technicians who support the academic team here bring a wealth of clinical and research expertise to their roles.
The technical team run the school’s clinical spaces, across 3 campuses that are designed to simulate various healthcare settings. It is here where students come to learn and simulate the practical skills that are an essential part of their training.
