Strength of Materials Technician CTE

Strength of Materials Lab, all things related to material mechanical properties happen. The star of the lab (apart from myself, is our extensive range of Universal Testing Machines (UTMs), which can perform tensile, compressive, three-point bend, and four-point bend tests on metals, timber, polymers, textile, composite materials, etc.. With load cells available from 500N up to 300kN and grips designed for flat, circular, belt, and string samples, the UTMs support both teaching and a broad range of research activities. Other key equipment in the lab includes a Universal Hardness Tester, a Hardness Tester, and a Shake Table.
Zhaoying  sets up the experiments, assist the academic staff during classes, and demonstrate the safe use of the machines. In research, I primarily handle machine operation and data acquisition, but I am also often involved in designing sample dimensions, refining testing methods, and analysing preliminary data. With a DPhil in Materials from the University of Oxford, I take pride in my deep materials knowledge and research expertise. Together with the support of my line manager, Ivan, and my colleagues, I ensure that all projects in Strength of Materials Lab are handled with precision, professionalism, and a little personal touch. Zhaoying is also a co-supervisor in some research projects.
