Hannah Saroli - BSc (Hons) Marketing with Digital

Why did you choose to study Marketing with Digital? Why did you decide on LSBU?

My journey began with achieving a Foundation Diploma in Graphic Design at UAL, where I learned how visuals can create powerful engagement. As my interest in communication and branding grew, I became eager to learn how data can be used to inform effective business decisions, creating meaningful connections to drive action. This led me to marketing, a field that brings together analytics, psychology, and creativity in a way that felt like a perfect fit.

LSBU stood out because of its strong industry connections and practical, real-world approach. I knew I’d gain both the theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to excel in this dynamic, data-driven field and explore how digital tools and strategies foster engagement and create lasting connections.

Tell me about how the course staff have supported you.

The staff at LSBU have been incredibly supportive. They bring not only their academic expertise but also industry insights, which has helped me bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications. During my second year, they introduced me to valuable industry contacts through a module which led to a full-time placement with WeAreWaterloo BID. Now, in my third year, I’ve come full circle as a guest lecturer in that same module, sharing insights with younger students on employability and placements. This experience wouldn’t have been possible without LSBU’s initial connection and their encouragement to explore new professional avenues.

What skills have you learnt or developed during your time at LSBU?

At LSBU, I’ve developed a range of both hard and soft skills. On the technical side, I’ve become proficient in digital marketing tools and data analysis, allowing me to confidently make marketing decisions based on insights. On the soft skills side, I’ve refined my communication and teamwork abilities through group projects and presentations. I’ve also developed public speaking skills through guest lecturing, where I’ve had the chance to share my journey with students and inspire them.

Have you done a work placement or any work experience?

Yes, I completed a placement with WeAreWaterloo BID as a Digital Marketing and Admin Assistant, which led to my current role as Marketing Executive. This has given me the opportunity to handle digital marketing, event coordination, and community engagement projects, all while developing my understanding of how a Business Improvement District operates. Additionally, I have worked as a Business Solutions Advisor at LSBU Business Solutions Centre, which provided consultancy experience, and as a Social Media Marketing Member for South Bank Racing, where I worked on increasing brand awareness.

Where do you see yourself in the future? What are your goals?

Through my work experience, I’ve discovered a passion for content creation, learning that effective content blends creativity with data-driven insights, and I’m excited to explore this further. In the future, I see myself in a dynamic digital marketing role, focused on building engagement strategies and creating impactful brand experiences.

What advice would you give to people thinking about studying at LSBU?

My advice would be to take advantage of the opportunities LSBU offers. The university has fantastic industry connections, so actively engage with those, whether it’s through placements, projects, or networking events. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the staff and lecturers - they’re incredibly supportive and can open doors for you. Try to gain real-world experience early on, as you’ll be able to apply these unique experiences to your studies.

The best thing about my experience at LSBU was….

The highlight of my LSBU experience was applying my learning in real-world situations. Working with WeAreWaterloo BID, presenting at LSBU Business School, and sharing my journey with students have all been key moments beyond the classroom. Seeing the impact of my work in the community, alongside the support from LSBU staff and peers, has been fantastic. This full-circle experience - from student to guest lecturer - has been incredibly fulfilling and reinforces my passion for marketing and community engagement.
