Mixed Lone Mother Families in Bristol, July 2008 - June 2010
In addition to seeking to understand the experiences of the lone mothers, the Nuffield pilot study also explored the possibility of conducting interviews with children and non-resident fathers.
Working in partnership with a Bristol-based practitioner agency, Single Parent Action Network UK (SPAN), the projects undertook a qualitative case study of lone mother families involving four stages of research activities:
a literature review on mixed racial and ethnic lone parent families;
development of interview schedules;
individual semi-structured interviews with up to 10 lone mothers and, where possible, their children and the non-resident fathers;
the writing of a short report on findings to be published on SPAN's website.
