US Loans

LSBU participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loans). This is the main US Federal funding available to US students in the UK.

To begin the loan process, complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and select London South Bank University as one of your school options. LSBU’s Direct Loan federal code is G33523 (or 03352300).

If you intend to borrow Federal Direct Loans or Private Sallie Mae loans, please read the US Loans Student Manual 2025/26 (PDF File 471 KB) and follow the instructions.

We will not know you wish to apply for a loan until you submit the documents detailed in the Manual to:  enquiriesusfinance@lsbu.ac.uk

2026/27 Documents will be provided shortly.

Programme eligibility for Direct Loans

Most programmes at LSBU are eligible for Direct Loans, however some are not. Ineligible programmes include:

  • All non-degree programmes
  • Distance learning programmes
  • Nursing and medical programmes
  • Programmes studied at LSBU’s Croydon campus and other ineligible institutions.

In addition, students undertaking a study-abroad or work placement semester/year for any programme type are not eligible to receive US loans for this period

Key Changes after July 2026

  • New Grad PLUS loans will not be available for new borrowers or those on new programmes. Postgraduate students may borrow up to $20,500 annually in Direct Loans.
  • New Parent PLUS loans will be capped at $20,000 per year, with a lifetime limit of $65,000

  • Continuing students who are already borrowers  and remain continuously enrolled will be exempt from changes.
  • This is based on our understanding of the enactment of the OBBBA Bill.

1098T Tax Forms
Please contact the US Loans Team via enquiriesusfinance@lsbu.ac.uk with your student ID number if you require a tax letter or EIN.
Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits 
London South Bank University is no longer a participating institution for Veterans Affairs funding (Post-9/11 GI Bill). VA education benefits cannot be used for enrolment in any programs offered by LSBU. US Federal and Private loans can be applied for as an alternative source of funding.
