Postgraduate students need drive, determination and usually a first degree
You need either a first degree (usually at least a 2:2) or a minimum three years' post-qualification experience in a relevant field to take a postgraduate degree at LSBU.
Our Admissions Tutors look for motivated and committed students. It's essential postgraduate candidates have high standards in maths or numeracy, communication and IT and can demonstrate a good knowledge and interest in the subject area they're applying for.
The below outline is a general guide and some courses have additional entry requirements. Search our Course Finder for full details.
To register for a PhD you'll normally need a first or second class Honours degree from a recognised university. Our typical applicant will have a relevant Masters with Merit or Distinction.
Holders of other qualifications will be considered on merit and we take into account the nature and scope of the proposed programme. We also recognise professional experience, publications, reports and other evidence of accomplishment as well as an ability and background knowledge appropriate to the proposed research.
Candidates need a good standard of English language skills to complete their work and prepare and defend a thesis. As a research student your application needs to be accepted by one of our seven Schools and this is only done once an appropriate supervisory team has been identified. Read more about Research Degrees at LSBU.
Normal entry qualifications for Postgraduate Diploma and Masters courses is an Honours degree or equivalent. For some Postgraduate Diplomas alternative qualifications are accepted along with relevant work experience. The University considers each application on its merits and is prepared to admit candidates who demonstrate they have reached our standard entry requirements on the basis of prior experiential learning.
