Croydon’s first university opens to train next generation of nurses and business leaders

08 December 2022

The first university campus in Croydon will be officially opened by London South Bank University (LSBU) at a ceremony on 8 December 2022 at LSBU Croydon, Electric House, CR0 2AG. LSBU Croydon will offer new educational opportunities for hundreds of nursing and business students every year and will provide support to local businesses and Croydon’s communities.

The official opening event will highlight the huge impact of the new LSBU Croydon campus for: Croydon residents, Croydon businesses and Croydon’s community and launch student-led support services for people who live and work in Croydon including:

  • LSBU Croydon Business Solutions Centre – a new drop-in service for Croydon’s small and medium sized businesses to receive advice and guidance on business growth, accounting, marketing, social media and IT.
  • LSBU Researching Innovation for Sustainable Engineering Centre – a new project which will provide Croydon businesses access to labs and equipment, enhance national and international business links and develop the next generation of engineers.
  • LSBU Chiropractic Clinic – a new chiropractic care clinic where university students will treat 400 Croydon residents a year. Our Chiropractic degree course trains students to treat musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain - LSBU is the only London university to offer Chiropractic courses.

The LSBU Croydon campus has state-of-the-art teaching facilities which replicate hospital wards and critical care areas, lecture theatres and classrooms to teach advanced skills to healthcare and business students. Across London thousands of LSBU nursing, health and social work students work in clinical placements at NHS Trusts in London and the South East including: Guy’s and St Thomas’, Barts and Great Ormond Street.

Nadia Florentina Panait, Second Year Adult Nursing Student at LSBU Croydon, said, “Studying Nursing in the LSBU Croydon dedicated building with clinical skills laboratories, study rooms and library makes the campus a great place to learn and develop. A Nursing degree is far from a walk in the park, but is also life changing. My experiences so far at LSBU Croydon have exceeded all my expectations and have felt supported every step of the way on the academic and practical sides of the course.”

David Phoenix, LSBU Vice-Chancellor, said, “LSBU Croydon is the perfect example of our university’s mission to transform lives, communities and society. LSBU Croydon is training the next generation of nurses and business leaders with state-of-the-art facilities to give students the skills they need to provide first-class care to patients and help the NHS tackle the severe shortage of nurses across London and the South East. Croydon’s first university campus will change the lives of thousands of local people by: providing support for local businesses to help them develop and grow and delivering first-class healthcare services to treat patients.”
