In the Faculty of Health and Social Care, we offer a programme leading to Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in each of the four fields of nursing; adult, children's, learning disability and mental health. We have developed our recruitment and selection processes in close partnership with NHS Trusts, other practice partners and service users.
You must apply for your chosen field of nursing practice and at which campus you wish to study. Practice learning opportunities will be arranged in a practice area that is geographically close to the campus and your preference of NHS Trust will be taken into account. Attendance at face to face interviews is essential for all courses. Service colleagues and in the case of Mental Health and Learning Disabilities nursing, service users, form part of the group interview panels. Prepare yourself by working through these past papers.
Students can claim Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) relevant to their chosen course. You may apply for APL through both certificated learning and the production of a portfolio to demonstrate achievement of programme outcomes through experience. The processes in place allow individual applicants to map previous learning against programme outcomes, up to the permitted maximum of 50% for those with prior experience, for example previous degree studies, Foundation degree etc. If you are an applicant who wishes to make a claim, you will be provided with guidance notes to assist you in constructing this.
Courses commence in March and September of each year and all students enrol on a BSc (Hons) and are eligible to apply for the means-tested bursary for their studies. A PGDip with top-up to MSc is in development.
