LSBU's Academy of Sport will partner with Greenhouse Sports, a London-based charity, in a project to enhance engagement with sports in the community

London South Bank University's (LSBU) Academy of Sport will open its doors to Greenhouse Sports, sharing its recently refurbished facilities with the charity to develop its community sports provision.

The initial stages of the partnership will have a predominant focus on basketball. LSBU's men's basketball 1st team have won the BUCS Premier League South title four times in the last five seasons; the partnership will provide LSBU basketball teams with extra competitive games of a higher standard against Greenhouse Pioneers Basketball Club.

Phil Newman, Head of Sport and Recreation at LSBU's Academy of Sport commented on the newly
formed partnership, "It's a great opportunity for us to further entwine LSBU's
Academy of Sport in the surrounding community and to form a mutually beneficial
partnership with one of London's finest charities for sports in the community.

"In its earliest stages it is great to give our students on the elite sports programme access to truly inspirational coaches and frequent competitive matches with London Greenhouse Pioneers Basketball Club."

Basketball at LSBU's Academy of Sport is a successful part of the Elite Sports Programme, one of the largest university sports programmes in the UK. The programme provides students with financial support, enabling them to combine their studies with high level training and development in their chosen sport.

LSBU students on the basketball programme at LSBU will have regular access to high quality coaches from Greenhouse Sports to help them improve their game. Greenhouse Sports currently provide inspirational coaches to schools across London, working with young people to engage and include them in sports activities.
