Why did you choose to study Accounting and Finance?

I have always had a passion for numbers, and growing up in a family of finance professionals made my path quite clear. My mother and sisters are accountants, and my father is an entrepreneur, so finance was part of everyday life. Choosing Accounting and Finance felt like a natural step that combined both personal interest and family influence.

Why did you choose London South Bank University?

LSBU stood out as one of the top universities for Accounting and Finance in London, and its strong academic reputation immediately caught my attention. I was also drawn to the fact that the course offers up to nine ACCA exemptions upon successful completion, which aligned perfectly with my long-term goal of becoming ACCA qualified. Additionally, LSBU’s values around equality and diversity made me feel confident that I would be part of a welcoming and inclusive community.

Can you tell us more about any internship or placement opportunities?

Since 2021, I have been working as an Accounting Assistant at a small private accounting practice in West London. The knowledge I gained during my studies at LSBU helped me apply theory in a real-world context. At the same time, my job reinforced my academic learning, giving me a solid foundation of both theoretical understanding and practical experience.

How do you think LSBU is preparing you for your career?

LSBU has provided fantastic career support. I was part of the PwC Diversity Mentorship Scheme, which gave me valuable insights into the recruitment process, helped enhance my CV, and improved my interview skills. The university regularly hosts career fairs and networking events, and the Careers Hub team has been incredibly helpful with job advice, applications, and guidance.

Can you tell us about the academic support?

The academic staff at LSBU are exceptional. They are always approachable and supportive, offering timely and constructive feedback. I always felt like my voice was heard, and I genuinely appreciated how invested they were in my progress.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying Accounting and Finance at LSBU?

Take full advantage of every opportunity — get involved, ask questions, and connect with staff and students. Do not underestimate the value of gaining work experience alongside your studies. It really helps bridge the gap between theory and practice.

What are your plans when you graduate?

I plan to continue working at the accounting firm I am currently with, while also aiming towards completing my full ACCA qualification. In the long term, I hope to progress into a more senior role, potentially within a larger firm or even in industry, where I can take on more responsibility and expand my expertise. Ultimately, my goal is to become a chartered accountant and contribute meaningfully to the finance profession.
