Tasnim Hossain Chowdhury: Business Management BSc (Hons)
Currently pursuing an LSBU Business Management BA (Hons) with an HRM pathway, Tasnim Hossain Chowdhury was primarily attracted to the program by its structured module content and crucial CIPD accreditation. His engagement extends significantly beyond the classroom; he has thrived within LSBU’s inclusive and active community, successfully serving as a two-year Course Representative and making an impact as a Students’ Union election candidate. His professional development is continuously supported by the Careers Hub, a dedicated mentorship programme, and specialised, employability-focused modules.
Why did you choose to study Business Management at LSBU?
I am studying Business Management BA (Hons) with an HRM pathway. I went through the modules that this programme offers, and they are well structured and highly relevant to the graduate job market. One of the main reasons I chose this degree was the CIPD accreditation students receive upon completion.
Why did you choose LSBU as an international student?
Studying an undergraduate degree for three years can be challenging, especially when coming from a different country and culture. Before joining LSBU, I saw the level of inclusivity they offer. The community, societies, and the Students’ Union are very active. I also had the opportunity to become a course representative for two consecutive years, and I ran in the Students’ Union elections once. Overall, I was impressed by how every student is allowed to participate and get involved.
Can you tell us about any placement or internship opportunities you’ve had?
So far, during my studies, I have been able to stay on track toward my goals after graduation. Although I have been working part-time throughout my studies, I have attended several interviews and found promising leads that have given me potential opportunities for my future career.
How is LSBU preparing you for your career?
The structure of this degree allows every student to develop their skills and knowledge. The module before the placement year, The Business Professional, focused on employability and placements and helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses. The timing of this module was crucial, and I give credit to the university and policymakers.
The LSBU Careers Hub has designated consultants for the Business School, and they are all extremely helpful. I received massive support from them. In addition, I was offered the chance to take part in a mentorship programme, which is allowing me to gain insights from professionals working in major industries.
What networking opportunities have you experienced while studying at LSBU?
In our lectures and seminars, we had several guest speakers, including LSBU alumni, who shared their career journeys and gave us valuable advice on how to make the most of our degree. LSBU also arranges job fairs and various events to help students find opportunities, which I found very helpful.
Can you tell us about the academic support?
Throughout my journey since first year, I have received a tremendous amount of support from academic staff. At the beginning, I was embarrassed because I barely knew how to access any support, but LSBU provided clear guidance and easy access to the help available. This has made my journey much easier, and I am really grateful for that.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying Business Management?
For anyone interested in studying Business Management at LSBU, my advice would be: if you are committed to your studies and genuinely enjoy what you are learning, the support LSBU offers will make your student life much easier.
What are your plans after you graduate?
After I graduate, I plan to work in HR. I have always been entrepreneurial, and this degree has also given me valuable entrepreneurial knowledge, which I hope to apply in the future.
