Phuong Le, BA Hon Business Management with Marketing

Why did you choose to study Business Management with Marketing?
I developed a strong interest in Business Management during the Undergraduate Foundation Programme. After researching, I found that Business Management with Marketing at London South Bank University (LSBU) was an ideal joint course for me, offering comprehensive management knowledge while allowing me to specialise in marketing. My favourite thing about this course was the placement year, which provided real-world experience in a professional environment where I undertook genuine responsibilities, not making coffee or running errands.
As an international student, why did you choose to study at LSBU?
I chose LSBU because of its supportive environment and practical approach to learning. The University is located in the heart of London and close to big companies, which provides numerous opportunities to connect with professionals and gain real experience in the business world. Additionally, LSBU’s commitment to helping international students through career support, workshops, and strong cultural activities was one of the main reasons for my decision.
Can you tell us more about your placement year and the benefits of this?
My placement year was an absolute highlight (golden ticket) of my degree. I was in the role of PR and Social Media Executive and was fortunate to be part of a dynamic team at Spa Communications. My favourite part of doing a placement is the collaborative aspect, so brainstorming and workshopping new ideas, and being able to collaborate with people who are just as passionate about marketing as I am. I enjoy my lectures, and I think they definitely provide the concepts and knowledge needed to succeed. But with that being said, there are just some things that cannot be taught in a classroom, and I feel like I am on the right track to achieving the career I want because I have a combination of knowledge and work experience.
How do you think LSBU is preparing you for your career?
LSBU’s careers team supported me thoroughly before my placement, providing CV checks, mock interviews, and encouragement. The community at LSBU also played an important role, as my peers openly shared their experiences, which helped my preparation. I secured a job at the University as a Marketing Assistant during the time I was finishing my final year.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying Business Management with Marketing?
My advice would be to embrace academic learning and practical experiences offered through placements.
Favourite memory of LSBU so far?
All I can remember are the laughs! The laughs in lectures, from students and projects, and a snack trip to the canteen with friends. One highlight would be having an opportunity to participate in an international campaign where I met other students from different corners of the world.
What are you doing now since you have graduated?
Since graduating, I have now working as a Senior PR and Social Media Executive. I love my job, continually leveraging the skills I developed at LSBU and learning new things daily. My career journey has been highly rewarding, and a significant part of that is the strong foundation and experiences I gained at LSBU.
