Why did you choose LSBU?
My decision to study at LSBU was influenced by several compelling factors. Firstly, the University is widely respected for its distinguished reputation in healthcare education. Its long-standing and well-established partnerships with NHS Trusts across London ensure that students like me gain access to world-class training environments and diverse clinical placements.
Secondly, LSBU’s values of inclusivity, diversity, and widening participation resonated deeply with me. Nursing, as a profession, is fundamentally about equity, respect, and care for people from all occupations. Seeing a university that mirrors these values made me confident that I would be studying in an environment that embraces differences while promoting fairness and mutual respect.
Additionally, LSBU places a strong emphasis on producing practice-ready, employable graduates. The University’s focus on combining academic rigour with practical, firsthand learning reassured me that my transition from classroom to clinical environment would be seamless. This integrated approach to education confirmed LSBU as the ideal institution to nurture my nursing ambitions.

Receiving the Student of the Year award was an incredible honour and a defining moment in my journey. For me, it symbolised recognition of not only my hard work and resilience but also the values LSBU has consistently instilled in its students: inclusivity, perseverance, and commitment to excellence.
This award serves as a lifelong mirror for me, a constant reminder to uphold the highest standards of practice, maintain humility, and never lose sight of the importance of compassionate, patient-centered care. It has further strengthened my resolve to contribute meaningfully to the nursing profession.
What was your inspiration or reasons to study this subject?
The inspiration to study adult nursing stems from what I describe as an inborn passion, an intrinsic, unconditional drive to care for others. From an early age, I was always drawn to roles that required empathy, patience, and service. Over the years, my encounters with people in vulnerable states deepened this passion.
Nursing, to me, represents far more than a career. It is a vocation built on compassion, evidence-based practice, and advocacy. I was particularly inspired by the opportunity to play an active role in improving health outcomes, not just for individuals but also for entire communities. Witnessing the profound impact of nurses during the COVID-19 crisis reaffirmed this choice. I knew that pursuing adult nursing would allow me to combine my academic abilities with my values of service, empathy, and advocacy for the most vulnerable in society.
Where are you from and which course did you choose to study?
I am originally from Nigeria, where I obtained my first degree in Business Administration. My academic and professional background prior to nursing involved working in a variety of administrative and managerial capacities, which gave me a broad understanding of organisational systems and people management. However, deep within me, there was always an innate calling toward a profession that involved direct human care, service, and compassion.
In early 2020, just a few weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shook the world, I relocated to London in search of broader opportunities and a new path. During the pandemic, I had the privilege of volunteering at one of the NHS Trusts. This opportunity was more than just an introduction to the UK healthcare system it was a life-defining experience. I witnessed first-hand the resilience, dedication, and sacrifice of healthcare professionals working tirelessly under immense pressure.
Following my volunteer experience, I worked as a Healthcare Support Worker in the Adult Critical Care Unit and in the operating theatre. These roles exposed me to the realities of frontline healthcare, strengthened my passion for patient care, and confirmed my long-held desire to transition into nursing. In 2023, I finally took the decisive step by enrolling in the MSc Adult Nursing programme at London South Bank University (LSBU). This choice was driven by my lifelong passion for providing unconditional care, a quality my friends and colleagues affectionately recognised when they nicknamed me “Baby Nurse” long before I formally began this journey.
Tell me about how the course lecturers have supported you.
The lecturers at LSBU have been pivotal to my success on the programme. Beyond being subject experts, they serve as mentors, motivators, and guides. Their teaching methods are inclusive and student-centred, ensuring that every learner, regardless of background or prior experience feels valued and supported.
One aspect I particularly admire is the role of the link lecturer, who functions not only as an academic mentor but also as a bridge between theory and practice. The link lecturer ensures that students maintain high professional standards while encouraging us to challenge assumptions and engage critically with evidence-based practice. This approach has helped me cultivate both confidence and scholarly rigour.
Their unwavering commitment has shaped my ability to think critically, act with resilience, and develop into a reflective practitioner, qualities that are indispensable in modern nursing.
What kind of new technologies and equipment have you learned about on your course?
At LSBU, I have been exposed to a wide range of new technologies and simulation facilities designed to mirror real-life clinical environments. These include high-fidelity simulation manikins, which allow students to practise managing complex clinical scenarios in a safe and controlled setting.
I have also developed proficiency in using advanced patient monitoring systems and digital health platforms, which are increasingly central to modern healthcare. By practising with this equipment, I have gained the confidence to integrate technology into patient care, enhancing both efficiency and safety.
These experiences reflect LSBU’s forward-looking commitment to equipping students with the skills necessary for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Where do you see yourself in the future and what are your goals?
Looking ahead, I aspire to become a skilled and compassionate adult nurse, with a particular interest in the care of older adults. This area is close to my heart because it requires patience, dignity, and respect for life’s later stages, values I deeply cherish.
In the long term, I see myself advancing into leadership and educational roles within nursing. I want to contribute not only through direct patient care but also by shaping nursing practice, mentoring younger colleagues, and influencing healthcare policy. My ultimate ambition is to ensure that the principles of compassionate, person-centred care remain central to nursing, while also supporting the continuous development of future generations of nurses.
Do you have a work experience placement and where are you working?
Yes. I recently completed my final management placement at Homerton University Hospital, which has been my host trust throughout my practice learning. My placement there offered invaluable exposure to the challenges and rewards of delivering patient-centred care in a busy clinical setting.
I must particularly acknowledge the Pre-Registration Education Team at Homerton, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in my growth. Their guidance not only enhanced my clinical confidence but also inspired me to continually strive for excellence.
