Why did you choose to study Accounting and Finance at LSBU?

I chose Accounting and Finance at LSBU to master the language of business. LSBU offers a comprehensive curriculum such as financial accounting, management accounting, and corporate reporting, providing the practical skills, ACCA exemptions to accelerate my journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant and its professional environment in the heart of London.

Why did you choose London South Bank University as an international student (if applicable)?

As a home student, I choose London South Bank University because of its strong focus on practical, career focused learning. I have previously completed a Diploma in Accounting in Nigeria and moving to the UK has given me the opportunity to build on that foundation in an environment with excellent resources. As a mum, I needed a university that would be manageable alongside my family commitment. LSBU’s convenient location make it possible for me to balance my education with school runs and home responsibilities, while still benefitting from excellent resources, industry connections, and opportunities for real world experience.

Can you tell us more about any internship or placement opportunities you've undertaken?

While I have not undertaken a formal placement, I have focused significantly on the practical modules within the course that stimulate real world business scenarios, and these projects have allowed me to apply accounting theories to actual company data. I have participated in the Product of South Bank Marketplace which has allowed me to assess my skills in a significant business scenario, focusing on strategy and commercial viability. Currently, I am also utilizing the LSBU Employability service to help refine my CV, prepare for graduate schemes and future roles.

How do you think LSBU is preparing you for your career?

LSBU has been amazingly effective in preparing me for my career by offering a curriculum that balances technical skills with broader problem-solving abilities. The university’s focus on practical learning such as using case studies, group projects, and industry-focused assignments which has given me insight into the real-world challenges faced by financial professionals.

What networking opportunities have you had since being at LSBU?

I have taken full advantage of the networking opportunities available at LSBU. The university regularly hosts guest speakers and workshops led by industry professionals, which have allowed me to learn from and engage with people already working in the field and has expanded my network significantly. I have also attended several career fairs, connected with alumni and networking events hosted by the Careers & Employability team, where I have made connections with professionals and fellow students who share similar career goals.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about studying Accounting and Finance at LSBU?

My advice to anyone considering Accounting and Finance at LSBU is to take advantage of all the resources available, career workshops, academic support, entrepreneurship support, and student societies. The academic support here is excellent, with personal tutors, writing workshops, and online resources that makes learning easier.

Can you tell us about the academic support?

LSBU offers excellent academic support. There are plenty of resources available, including online study tools, writing workshops, and peer tutoring. One of the things I have found most helpful is the ability to book one-on-one appointments with academic advisors to discuss any questions I have about my coursework or career path. The feedback I have received on my assignments from my lecturers has also been constructive, helping me continually improve my skills.

What are your plans after your graduate?

After graduation, I plan to pursue professional qualifications such as ACCA and work in corporate accounting, finance, or auditing. My long-term goal is to become a chartered accountant and contribute to strategic financial decision making in global organizations."
