Cystic Fibrosis - Caring for Adults through Tai chi
This six-week study highlighted a range of issues regarding outcome measures and tai chi deliveryTen patients from the Royal Brompton Hospital took part in an exploratory study which informed the design of the last of three phases, which is a randomised controlled trial with fifty adult and child participants. The first two phases of this project have been completed and funding agreed for the final phase.
The first phase was a systematic literature review of meditative movement for respiratory symptoms which has been published in Respiratory care; DOI:10.4187/respcare.02570. The second phase, a feasibility study on the use of tai chi for adults with cystic fibrosis has been published in the European Journal of Integrative Medicine2013; 5(6): 476-486.
Project reports from the first two phases are available from the Tracie Lawlor Trust for Cystic Fibrosis website who are also the funding body for this project. The Royal Brompton Hospital, London is also a collaborator.
Ethical approval was sought at the end of 2013 with an aim for the recruitment to commence in March 2014.
