LSBU’s mission is to transform lives, communities, businesses and society. Our research is key to this mission. Through understanding the needs of the real world, we can tailor our course portfolio to rise to meet our society’s challenges head-on.
We believe in nurturing research – from first exposure learning research techniques in our undergraduate programmes, through to our Masters, Professional Doctorate and PhD programmes, and beyond.

Research quality
We are a leading centre for research in London for nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, public health and social care. 80% of our research into Allied Health Professions and Nursing was awarded the highest quality ratings of 4* or 3* for 'impact' (reach and significance) - Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014.

Research case studies
PHRIST Centre
In 2020, we were awarded a £1.5m research grant by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to look at the profiling of public health as one of only four Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Team (PHIRST) centres in the UK.
Patient dignity and person-centred care
Over the last decade, a changing hospital population has seen a rise in the number of older frailer people being attended to. Prof Lesley Baillie's work looks at the increasingly important subject of patient dignity.
Reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, stroke and amputations
London South Bank University and Actegy research partnership have collaborated on a study to investigate discomfort associated with poor circulation.
