Cookies

Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user's device.

Cookies do lots of different jobs, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improve the user experience. They can also help to ensure that adverts you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.

Cookies used on LSBU domain and sub domains

The cookies used on the LSBU website have been categorised based on the four categories found in the ICC UK Cookie guide. These categories are:

Category 1 – 'Strictly necessary cookies'

These cookies are essential in order for you to move around the website and use its features. Usage examples are accessing secure areas of a site and adding items to a shopping basket. Essentially, they enable services you have specifically asked for.

Category 2 – 'Performance cookies'

These cookies collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance, which pages a visitor goes to most often. They do not identify a visitor and are only used to improve how a website works. Analytics cookies fall into this category. Essentially, they collect anonymous information on the pages visited.

Category 3 – 'Functionality cookies'

These cookies remember choices made by a user to personalise a site, such as area you are in or language. Essentially, they remember choices you have made to improve your experience.

Category 4 – 'Targeting or advertising cookies'

These cookies are used to deliver ads more relevant to the users. Essentially, they collect information on your browsing habits to make advertising relevant to you and your interests.
