Nursing talent and teaching innovation celebrated in national award nominations
London South Bank University (LSBU) has been shortlisted in five categories at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2026, recognising the exceptional talent of its nursing students, the strength of its NHS partnerships and the University’s continued commitment to innovation in nursing and midwifery education.
The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrate the very best in nursing and midwifery education by honouring outstanding students, universities and clinical partners. The awards highlight excellence across the profession and shine a spotlight on those who are shaping the future of healthcare.
This year, LSBU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery has been named a finalist in five categories:
- Student Nurse of the Year: Children – Molly Piper and Seren Otter
- Student Nursing Associate of the Year – Muthumalika Dayawansha Saundra Marakkala
- Most Inspirational Student Nurse of the Year – Chloe Thwala
- Student Placement of the Year: Hospital – Evelina London Children’s Hospital
- Teaching Innovation of the Year: Curriculum – Alternative Field Experience
These shortlistings reflect the School’s strong track record as one of London’s leading providers of nursing and midwifery training. LSBU works with more than 60 NHS partner organisations across London and beyond, offering students access to world‑class clinical placements and hands‑on training in highly realistic simulation environments.
In recent years, LSBU has continued to expand its teaching capacity and facilities to meet NHS workforce needs and solidify its role in training one‑fifth of London’s nurses.
In 2025, the University opened a £5.8 million state‑of‑the‑art immersive suite of health labs, enabling student nurses and midwives to train in simulated hospital and critical care environments using advanced mannequins, digital equipment and live‑streamed teaching technology.
Dr Angela Ridley, Head of School for Nursing and Midwifery, said: “Congratulations to our outstanding students and staff on being named finalists in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2026. This achievement reflects their dedication, compassion and commitment to excellence in nursing education and practice. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished and the impact you continue to make in our communities.”
LSBU’s history of success at the Student Nursing Times Awards reinforces this year’s achievements, with previous winners including students recognised for their advocacy work, clinical innovation and contributions to diversity and inclusion.
The grand final and awards ceremony will take place on Friday 24 April 2026 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
