LSBU students tour London giving fuel bill saving tips
A student-led advice and information service helping Southwark residents save money on their energy bills and run by London South Bank University (LSBU) will be visiting Peckham, Camberwell & Canada Water over the next month;
- 6 February at Peckham Pulse from 3-5pm
- 20 February at Camberwell Leisure Centre from 3-5pm
- 27 February at Canada Water Library from 11am-1pm.
On 30 January an event was held by LSBU Energy Advice Centre at the Castle Leisure Centre in Elephant and Castle.
The LSBU Energy Advice Centre offers Londoners advice and information on home energy costs (e.g. getting help with heating bills) and advice on grants for home energy improvements and reducing energy costs: on a website, by email (energyadvice@lsbu.ac.uk) and face-to-face at its base at: Clarence Centre, 126 London Rd, SE1 0AE (from 10am to 1pm on Thursdays).
Since the LSBU Energy Advice Centre project was launched in January 2023 with the support of registered charity, UPP Foundation, hundreds of people have had face-to-face advice and thousands have used our website to save money on their energy bills.
Southwark residents who have used the LSBU Energy Advice Centre have praised the service saying: "The hour-long consultation with one of our engineers proved invaluable, and I intend to implement the suggestions provided". Another resident visited the LSBU Energy Advice Centre office to express their gratitude after successfully securing funding for the "Connected for Warmth" programme based on the advice provided by the centre.
Deborah Andrews, LSBU Professor of Design for Sustainability and Circularity, said, “We are determined to use the expertise from LSBU staff and students to help people save money on their energy bills by taking our LSBU Energy Advice Centre out to different parts of Southwark in January and February. Rising energy bills and the cost-of-living crisis are hitting people in the pocket and we hope to reach hundreds of people when we visit Elephant & Castle, Peckham, Camberwell & Canada Water to give free advice and information about saving money on energy bills and cutting home energy costs. We hope to see you soon!”
