LSBU scoops top award as global leaders in marketing education
London South Bank University has been awarded top honours in the Academy of Marketing Teaching Excellence Awards 2014 for demonstrating excellence in marketing educationThe Academy of Marketing chose LSBU's marketing team for its project called: 'Give-Back' Culture to enhance student learning and embed employability across the curriculum.
The basis of the project was LSBU marketing team's 'Give-Back' culture amongst its undergraduate and postgraduate students, alumni and teachers. Facilitated by social networking, graduates are able to 'give back' to the university through their involvement in curriculum design, delivering lectures, mentoring students and offering employment opportunities.
This in turn enables the marketing teaching team to enhance engagement at all levels across the curriculum and in turn inspires students to achieve their potential through academic excellence and the development of employability skills.
While at LSBU the students can take advantage of one of the best networks to help their future careers, and after graduation this give back culture lives on as they contribute to the activities of the alumni network. Last year alone LSBU alumni 'gave-back' 60 career opportunities for graduating students.
Kim Roberts, Course Director for Marketing, said: "We are beside ourselves with pride to win the Team Teaching Excellence Award. To have our project chosen over entries from across the marketing sphere globally is a wonderful honour. It is particularly rewarding that our peers in the higher education marketing profession recognise our work and expertise and the contributions our alumni provide for the benefit of our students here at LSBU."
The Academy of Marketing is an organisation that seeks to further develop marketing education and research, pursue activities and policy which assists this and actively supports marketing academics and associated staff.
The LSBU team will be presented with their award at the Academy of Marketing Conference in Bournemouth in July.
