LSBU elite athlete becomes taekwondo national champion

London South Bank University elite athlete and Academy of Sport team member Daniel Walters has won the prestigious title of National Taekwondo Champion in the highly-competitive Olympic under-68kg category.
24 September 2013

A former elite athlete scholar at LSBU, Daniel graduated from the BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science in 2012 and has worked at the LSBU Sports Centre since then.

The win is extra-special for Daniel who suffered a potentially career-ending knee injury in 2011 where he snapped his posterior cruciate ligament and damaged several intra-articular elements of the knee.

"Daniel's recent triumph is a real story of determination and desire to succeed," says Andrew Powlesland, LSBU Academy of Sport director.

"This is a phenomenal achievement for Daniel and is a true testament to his hard work, determination and undoubted ability. It has been a hard battle back from injury but this may spell the start of the next chapter for Daniel."
