LSBU partners with top engineering consultancy to revolutionise SCADA infrastructure
LSBU begins work on KTP with engineering consultancy to safely virtualise IT infrastructure services usually carried out at physical locations across the globeLondon South Bank University (LSBU) has begun work on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with successful engineering consultancy Firstco. The KTP will help Firstco to safely virtualise IT infrastructure services that until now have been carried out at clients' location.
Firstco has built its success in the communication and control infrastructure market by sending its engineers across the globe to work at clients' locations to both supply new and manage current infrastructure. With the development of the Cloud, Firstco now wants to virtualise its services to offer better service to its clients.
"This project offers Firstco the opportunity to develop their knowledge and expertise to ensure they remain the UK's leading company in the field. With this expertise, Firstco will be able to offer new services to their clients and win business in new areas," said Professor Dilip Patel, Professor of Information Systems at LSBU and lead academic on the KTP.
KTP Associate Dr Sajid Nazir is working with Professor Dilip Patel and Professor Shushma Patel to develop knowledge about the virtualisation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in secure environments.
"Firstco view this key partnership as an excellent means for developing both our in-house capability and stronger ties with our academic partners at LSBU. The KTP provides us with an invaluable opportunity to embark upon a challenging research project, maintaining our status as a company punching above our weight," said Mark Lazarides, Senior Engineer at Firstco.
"From my initial meeting with Firstco, it was clear that this would be an interesting and necessary project for the future of SCADA virtualisation. I look forward to seeing the benefits that this KTP will generate for virtualisation services in the future," said David Woods, KTP Manager at LSBU.
