Critical appraisal introductory workshop
The Faculty of Health and Social Care Research Capability Service invites you to our next research event: Critical appraisal introductory workshop, by Dr Ruth BellingThe workshop will be on Tuesday 22 May 2012, 12.30pm-2.00pm, in K2 V404 (Southwark Campus), which will be run by Dr Ruth Belling. Ruth is a Reader within the Institute for Leadership and Service Improvement in the Faculty of Health and Social Care at LSBU and leads the Service Improvement and Role Development research theme within the Faculty's Achieving Service and Clinical Excellence research programme. She has been engaged in research and evaluation for many years and is the co-author of a systematic review of the effectiveness of IBD specialist nurses.
The workshop provides a practical introduction to critical appraisal of research.
Part One:
- Overview of critical appraisal - What is it? (Assessing the methodological quality of research)
- Why do it? (Context and purposes in critically appraising research)
- Getting started: Choosing appropriate tools/checklists
Part Two:
- Workshop session An opportunity to assess a published research paper using an appropriate checklist.
