Celebrating 10 years of partnership with British University in Egypt
London South Bank University (LSBU) and the British University in Egypt have celebrated a decade of collaboration, during which over 11,000 students in Cairo have achieved degrees validated by LSBU.
The anniversary was marked at a graduation ceremony for the latest cohort in the Egyptian capital on 26 October, attended by LSBU CEO and Vice-Chancellor, Paul Kett, LSBU Global colleagues and distinguished British University in Egypt counterparts.
Through the partnership, BUE students can study courses across engineering, energy, law, humanities, business and mass communications, accredited by the two universities. This enables graduates to hold degrees recognised both in Egypt and internationally, preparing them to thrive in local and global employment markets.
British University in Egypt students can also attend LSBU summer schools in London, gaining first-hand experience of studying and living in the UK’s capital. Meanwhile, LSBU Comparative Law students have travelled to Cairo to study the Egyptian legal system.
As the partnership matures, both universities hope to expand these mobility opportunities for students and staff alike.
From humble beginnings to national priorities
The partnership between LSBU and British University in Egypt started modestly – with a single course in oil and gas technology – before expanding to encompass a wide range of disciplines.
It has since grown to include 22 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate courses, combining the strengths of British higher education with an educational experience firmly rooted in Egypt’s cultural identity and national purpose. Through the partnership students and staff have contributed to several of Egypt’s national priorities.
Beyond the portfolio of taught courses, the collaboration has fostered international research and enterprise projects focused on renewable energy, sustainable design and digital innovation - areas central to Egypt’s Vision 2030 and to LSBU’s mission of transforming lives, communities and businesses.
The partnership is built on shared values of applied learning and research that address real-world challenges.
A shared commitment to opportunity and innovation
Professor Mohamed Loutfi, President at the British University of Egypt, said: “We celebrate ten years of partnership with London South Bank University – a collaboration built on shared values and mutual respect. Together, we have bridged cultures, exchanged knowledge and created opportunities that prepare our students to thrive in a global world. We are proud and grateful to have our LSBU colleagues with us and we look forward to many more years of collaboration and shared success.”
Paul Kett, LSBU Group CEO and Vice-Chancellor, praised the partnership for driving innovation, supporting enterprise and serving society.
“This collaboration is not just about academic quality - it is about opportunity and preparing graduates who are both locally rooted and globally ready,” he said.
“[It] is a partnership that looks outward - one that connects universities with business, with government, and with communities. In doing so, we are helping to build Egypt’s knowledge economy and to strengthen the bridge between education and enterprise.
“Together, we have built a bridge between Egypt and the United Kingdom.”
