This module builds upon pathophysiological principles and processes related to the care of the neuroscience patient. The primary focus is to develop skills in assessment and reflection, as well as to evaluate evidence based practice within the context of neuroscience nursing.

Entry requirements
- A first degree in a relevant subject.
- Registration on a professional register as appropriate.
- A minimum of 6 months' experience in a related area of practice.
- Placement(s) Students will normally practice in an area where patients with neurological problems are nursed.
- Student support for studying at Masters level is to be discussed with the pathway advisor. Students who have not previously undertaken study at academic Level 7 (Masters level) are advised to consider the workshop: Preparation for Masters Level Study, which can be found on the CPPD prospectus.

This module seeks to provide focus and direction for practitioners who wish to develop their skills and expertise in relation neuroscience care across the age spectrum. The module aims to enable an individual practitioner to have broader competence skills to progress in a direction that meets workforce development, meeting the needs of the future NHS as outlines in the Five Year Forward View in 2014 by the Department of Health (DH, 2014) and the HEE agenda for Clinical Academic Careers Framework (HEE 2015).
This module encompasses multiprofessional working and a sharing of expertise and skills across traditional professional boundaries and fields as new services and roles are being developed to meet current and future challenges for service delivery. Completion of this module should help the practitioner to be in a better position to progress in their career

Knowledge and Understanding:
- Evaluate and review knowledge and understanding of national and local health care policies and initiatives aimed at improving neuroscience patients’ outcomes.
- Appraise the role of the neuroscience nurse in the delivery of care utilising problem-solving and enquiry based approach.

- Syntheses information from a number of sources in order to evaluate and review change in neuroscience practice.
- Identify and solve complex problems within the field of neuroscience care.

- Demonstrate competence in evaluating, reviewing and shaping the assessment, monitoring, medication and the promotion of patient safety.

- Construct a logical and systematic approach to providing care while working within a multi-disciplinary team.
