Placement

They serve as a valuable steppingstone for students looking to gain practical experience to compliment their academic studies. It is sandwiched between student’s 2nd and final year.

Academic year: 2nd year ​

Assessment: Credit bearing & Assessed​

Duration: 9 to 12 months (≥ 28 hours per week)​

Salary: ≥ London living wage​

Start date: Twice a year, September and January

Micro Placement

Micro-placements are often flexible in terms of timing, making them accessible to students during academic year or alongside their coursework.

This arrangement is highly beneficial for our diverse and skilled students, who may have responsibilities such as caregiving or parenthood. It enables them to acquire valuable experience while effectively managing their various commitments.

Academic year: 2nd year

Assessment: NA​

Duration: Up to 6 months​ (≤ 16 hours per week)

Salary: Paid/unpaid​

Start date: Flexible

Internship

Temporary work experience that provides students or recent graduates, with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in a specific industry.

Students are actively involved in day-to-day tasks and projects related to their field, gaining hands-on experience in their chosen area of interest.

Academic year: 2nd and final year students

Assessment: NA​

Duration: Flexible, ≥ 6 months​

Salary: ≥ London living wage​

Start date: Flexible

Summer Internship

Students are exposed to real-world work environments, tasks, and projects relevant to their field of study or career aspirations. They have the chance to apply academic knowledge to practical situations over the summer period.

Academic year: 1st, 2nd and final year students

Assessment: NA​

Duration: Between 6-8 weeks ​

Salary: ≥ London living wage​

Start date: June

Insight Day

To provide students with a glimpse into a particular industry, company, or career path. This includes activities such as a visit the company’s office, presentations/workshops led by professionals in the field, networking sessions with current employees, ask questions and seek advice from industry experts, learn about internship or job opportunities within the organisation and shadowing professionals in their work place.

Academic year: 2nd and final year students

Assessment: NA​

Duration: 2-5 day

Salary: Unpaid

Start date: Flexible

Careers and placement fair

Employers come together to promote their opportunities to LSBU students/graduates

Employer pop-up

Employers get to promote their jobs to students on site and they will be the only employer on site that day.

Site visits

An activity in which LSBU students visit a workplace, get a tour, learn about the business, meet employees, ask questions, and observe work in progress

Managed vacancies

You can choose to turn your posted opportunity into a managed vacancy. We offer you a complete recruitment service, with a dedicated Employer engagement Consultant who will handle everything from vetting applications to setting up interviews so you can focus your time and effort on interviewing a shortlist of well-qualified students and graduates.

The best part is, there are no extra charges or fees for this services.

Recruitment days

Very similar to managed vacancies, you get the opportunity to interview students and graduates who have been pre-vetted for your roles. This can take place either on campus or at your office.

Project based learning

Students work on meaningful projects that often address complex problems, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of content and develop essential skills while working in groups. PBL promotes active learning and prepares students for the challenges of the future workforce. These project are either real projects where organisations don’t have the resources or time to solve them or they can be fictional projects.

Mentoring

Become a mentor to provide guidance, advice, and support to LSBU students, helping them navigate their career, develop skills, and overcome challenges.
