Mohammed Edoo, BSc Mechanical Engineering Design, joined through Clearing

Mohammad Edoo was about to embark on a year-long backpacking adventure around the globe, until he received some life-changing advice

On leaving Sixth Form, family and friends urged Mohammad to put his travel plans on hold to pursue higher education. "At the time I had no intentions of going to university until I spoke to them and they told me about the many opportunities I would have by pursuing higher education."

Clearing creates opportunities

However, by the time Mohammad decided to go to university it was too late for him to apply via the usual UCAS route to start studying that September. Fortunately, the opportunity was there for him to apply through Clearing.

Like many, Mohammad initially envisioned Clearing as a daunting and stressful process – but he was left pleasantly surprised.

"The Clearing helpline was fantastic. All the staff were extremely helpful which made it very easy to complete my application. For anyone applying through Clearing this August, don't panic and be prepared. Scan your A-level results and save these digital copies to your computer so you're ready to email them in when you're asked."

Drawn by LSBU's reputation

Prior to applying, Mohammad researched LSBU online and spoke to friends and family who gave him fantastic recommendations.

"Everyone I spoke to regarding studying at LSBU talked about its fantastic student environment and working prospects. I am currently gaining a summer internship placement which the University's Employability Service has helped me with immensely.

Following on from his Engineering qualification at A-level, and with a keen interest in mechanical design, Mohammad has discovered a real passion for the discipline. He believes that pursuing something you enjoy in university is crucial as it will drive you to reach your goals and aspirations in life.
