Lucy O'Brien, BA (Hons) Marketing, internship
After growing up in London, and eager to get back to the city she loves, Lucy knew LSBU was the perfect university for her - and now she's set up for success"I chose to study at LSBU because it has a great reputation for graduate employability and is situated in one of the best locations in London. So after months of comparing potential universities LSBU definitely stood out as the best choice for me.
"I originally chose to study Marketing as I felt it suited my personality, it seemed fun and exciting and would allow me to be creative alongside building on my academic skills. I am also very career driven and Marketing offers graduates great prospects.
"One of the great things about LSBU is that you often get the chance to put your work into practice, one of my favourite pieces of work was working on a live brief for The Metropolitan Police."
A great opportunity
"I heard about the internship when a member of the employability team came in at the end of a lecture to speak to us about it. After having such a positive experience at LSBU I felt that it was a great opportunity for me and so I applied.
When I was offered the job I was so excited. I knew that as well as gaining valuable industry experience at an organisation I highly value, our learning needs would be supported and it would be a truly beneficial experience for me, as well as looking great on my CV.
"Working as a Marketing and Student Recruitment Intern allowed me to work in five departments including Events, Market Research, PR & Communications, Student Recruitment and Marketing.
"I really enjoyed working on my live project over the course of the 9 weeks. I love giving presentations and my project involved me presenting a research proposal to senior management which was great experience and practice for the future."
Plans for the future
While an intern in LSBU's marketing department, Lucy feels motivated and inspired for the future.
"The internship has boosted my confidence and strengthened my belief in my own capabilities. After working in the marketing department I feel ready to tackle my final year head on and am more motivated than ever to achieve success not only in my degree but in finding a graduate job in beauty marketing.
"There are many aspects of marketing I enjoy including market research and PR and Communications; however I would really like to focus on a career in Media Planning. While working at LSBU we got the chance to visit one of the agencies the department works with which encouraged my decision."
