Grace Bolo, alumna, LLB (Hons) Law
After graduating and working for Deloitte, Grace is looking forward to her next challenge and being able to give back to the community in her native KenyaFor many, working whilst raising a young family is enough of a challenge, but Grace Bolo was determined to make an even better future for herself by undertaking a Law degree at LSBU. Our reputation for excellence coupled with our central London location meant that LSBU was the ideal destination for Grace. The professional prospects afforded by our LLB (Hons) Law degree were the icing on the cake, so Grace applied for a place, and was delighted to learn she had been accepted.
Support and encouragement
With a busy home life to manage alongside her academic commitments, Grace feels that LSBU did everything possible to help her succeed. “The support and encouragement I received from academic staff and the friends I made amongst my fellow students were probably the best thing about studying at LSBU,” she recalls. “I also loved that the academic timetable helped me to balance my academic and family life perfectly.”
Career aspirations
Grace also believes that her career aspirations were helped by the work placement she undertook as part of her degree – an experience that she feels gave her confidence. “I worked for Southwark Council’s legal department, which was organised by LSBU,” she says. “It gave me the chance to put into practice all the theory I had been learning, and to learn what it is like to interact with professionals at all levels.”
High profile
Grace certainly made the most of the opportunity, graduating with a First Class Honours degree and moving on to work at Deloitte as an associate within National Quality and Risk Management. “Having a First Class degree from LSBU was very helpful when applying to organisations with such a high profile,” she says.
Looking ahead
Grace has since completed a Legal Practice Course and MA (Law with Business) with Distinction at BPP University and she accredits this to the high quality teaching at LSBU which helped her prepare for these higher qualifications. Looking to the future, Grace hopes to take her qualifications even further, “I hope to qualify as a solicitor, and ultimately to run my own business,” she says. “In addition, I support an education charity that supports orphans in my home town back in Kenya, and that is something I would like to grow too. LSBU has given me the confidence, skills and ability to achieve my goals.”
