We teach our students to think critically, challenge the status quo and consider appropriate policy, management and practical interventions in their chosen professions. Academic staff advise on key urban, environmental and leisure research agendas, working with national and international bodies to shape policy.

We are dedicated to giving our students the skills and specialist knowledge needed to pursue their chosen careers. On each course page you will find details of work placements, employability and case studies of past students’ careers.

Planning

Qualifications in the planning and housing sectors can lead to a wide range of careers. Many of our past and current students hold key positions in their organisations and professional bodies, often as senior managers and business owners.

Currently there is a national shortage of qualified town and environmental planners in the UK so this is a good time plan for your future career in these fields.

We believe that it's really important to give our students a real sense of future employment opportunities. So, all our courses feature a study visit and fieldwork opportunities. There are also practice-based modules and our highly successful Buddy Scheme pairs planning practitioners with planning students to provide voluntary work experience.

Taking the part-time option whilst working gave me the opportunity to progress my career and build confidence. Now I'm an Assistant Planner my role is very varied. I write planning summaries, produce the company's newsletter as well as monitoring local development frameworks and coordinating public consultations.
