Alumni and visiting users

If you are a former LSBU student or staff member, you can get free access to our libraries and Learning Resources Centre by joining the LSBU Alumni Association.

There is also a paid membership (£25 per year) that allows you to borrow up to five books at a time from the library.
You will not have access to LSBU Wi-Fi unless you are a current member of an institution that provides Eduroam internet access.

Computers with internet access are available for you to use at the Learning Resources Centre.

Due to licensing restrictions we are unfortunately unable to offer access to all of our resources for LSBU alumni. These include Business and Law e-resources such as Mintel and Lexis. However you can access these e-resources from other libraries such as the British Library or Westminster Reference Library.

Some general e-journal titles are also available from the London Libraries Consortium via your public library. Visit their eLibrary.

Students or staff members at other universities

You may be able to access LSBU’s libraries by joining the SCONUL Access Scheme.

Full-time undergraduates can access the library on a reference only basis. Postgraduates, part-time undergraduates, distance learners and academic staff can borrow up to four books.

You will also have access to:

  • Limited electronic resources within the library buildings via the library catalogue PCs
  • Printing (if you have independent internet access), copying and scanning

You will not have access to LSBU Wi-Fi unless you are a current member of an institution that provides Eduroam internet access.

When you come to the library for the first time please bring your SCONUL approval email and your student ID. During vacation periods you can access LSBU libraries for reference only using your own student ID under the SCONUL Vacation Access scheme.

Members of the public

Reference access to members of the public not covered by the schemes listed above is at the discretion of the site manager. Requests for access must be made in advance using our Reference Only form. After completing and signing the form, please return it to the site library you wish to access. Access to members of the public is limited due to existing pressure on our resources and space from LSBU students - please give us as much detail as you can of your particular educational need to use our library.

Members of specific organisations

If you are a member of: Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) or Organisation of Tourism and Hospitality Management (OTHM) you are eligible for reference access by showing your organisation's membership card.

NHS Trust staff

NHS Trust staff can access our library at Havering only. You will need to collect a form from the library helpdesk and have it signed by your manager. You will also need to bring your NHS ID, proof of address and a passport size photo. Participating trusts include: Barking and Dagenham PCT, Barking, Havering and Redbridge PCT; Havering PCT; Waltham Forest PCT; North East London Mental Health Trust; Whipps Cross University Hospital Trust.

Computer access for visitors

Due to licensing restrictions on our electronic resources, only current LSBU students/staff can use the PCs in the LSBU libraries.

Visiting users may access the library catalogue terminals and the free electronic resources available via them.
LSBU Association (alumni) members can access PCs in the Learning Resources Centre.

Your visitor library account

If you are a visitor with borrowing rights, you can log in to view your library account and renew your items.
