LSBU shortlisted for THELMAs
London South Bank University (LSBU) has been shortlisted in two categories of the prestigious Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards. LSBU's Weeks Centre for Social and Policy Research has been nominated for 'Outstanding Leadership and Management Team' while the University's procurement department has been shortlisted for 'Outstanding Procurement Team'.The awards celebrate universities' leadership, management, financial and business skills. LSBU's Weeks Centre has an international reputation for its excellence in sociological and policy research, publications and consultancy.
The Centre has three dynamic research groupings: the Families and Social Capital group; the International Development, Emergencies and Refugees group (IDEAR); and the Crime and Criminal Justice Research Group (CCJRG).
The THELM Awards shortlisting follows the Head of the Weeks Centre, Professor Yvette Taylor, receiving a prestigious mid-career fellowship last week from the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Professor Taylor is one of 38 elected to the fellowship this year who have achieved distinction in the humanities and social sciences.
The Social Policy panel of RAE 2008 ranked the Weeks Centre 14th nationally and first out of the post-92 institutions. The Centre is so named after Professor Jeffery Weeks in recognition of his research leadership on the social organisation of sexuality.
LSBU's procurement department has also been shortlisted for a THELM award, having streamlined a key service to the University - contributing £4m in cashable savings.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 20 June.
