National Student Survey 2025
The results are in: National Student Survey 2025
From the way our students learn and are assessed to how they value the resources and support in place for them, for the fourth year running we’ve heard they’re increasingly happy with their experience at London South Bank University (LSBU).
The latest National Student Survey, which students complete during their final year, asks questions around teaching, the opportunities they are given, support they receive and their assessments and feedback.
Our teaching
Our students value the Learning Opportunities that our courses offer them. They feel we are creating opportunities for them to develop and apply their skills and they understand how they’re relevant for their future. 85.8% rate this aspect of their learning positively, which is in the top 25% in the country.
Our students continue to rate our courses highly, with nine of them receiving positivity ratings of 100% in at least one of the assessed categories. Two-thirds of all our courses rated over 80%, with Health and Social Care courses collectively receiving an impressive 99% for its assessment and feedback. Other highlights include:
- Mechanical Engineering receiving 95.1% for challenging students to achieve their best work
- Social Work scoring 94% or higher positivity across all categories
- Adult Nursing achieving 93.5% positivity for students gaining the knowledge and skills they think they will need for your future
- Business Management receiving 92.8% positivity for its teaching
- Law rated 90.1% positivity for learning opportunities
- Computer Science teaching receiving 90% positivity
Our committed teaching staff are key to the success of our courses and they are well-regarded by our students, with 92.3% agreeing that they are “good at explaining things” which in turn enhances their learning.
Assessment and feedback
We received our highest ever score in this category of 83.7% positivity, which puts LSBU in the top 25% of UK universities. This reflects our move towards using authentic, competence-based assessments more widely, reducing exams and testing learning with real-world scenarios and practical projects.
Students also felt our assessments “allowed the demonstration of learning”, achieving 87.4% positivity (an increase from 86.4% last year), again placing us in the top 25% nationally. When we provide feedback to our students, 83.3% agreed that it helped them improve their work, a score which places us in the top 15% of institutions.
Fantastic learning resources
Our students value the learning resources they receive. In particular, our library, part of a multi-million investment in our award-winning Hub, was rated as positive by 91.3% of students. The Hub is the centrepiece of our Southwark campus and provides state-of-the art spaces for collaborative learning and engagement alongside support services and resources.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
As an inclusive university, we take mental health and wellbeing seriously. We recently launched a Student Mental Health Charter, so it’s pleasing to hear this achieved 83% positivity, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year, showing how our students are aware of the many wellbeing resources, support and services which help ensure they succeed.
Building on success
Professor Tara Dean, LSBU Provost, said, “It’s fantastic to see our students continue to rate their experience highly year-on-year, and having this feedback allows us continue to improve for both our current and future students. We are delighted that the improvements we continue to put in place are valued, as the results clearly show.”
The NSS results are the latest success story for our students, who have the highest average salaries of all London modern universities, one, three and five years after graduating (LEO 2024). We rank sixth in the world for reducing inequalities (Times Higher Education rankings 2025) and are one of the leading London modern universities and ranked 59th nationally (Guardian University Guide 2025).
