National award success for leading finance academic

Usha Mistry, Accounting and Finance Senior Lecturer, from London South Bank University (LSBU) has won the ‘Editor's Special Award’ at the PQ Magazine Awards 2022 on 25 April 2022. The PQ Awards are national awards for the accountancy sector.

Usha Mistry won the ‘Editor's Special Award’ for leading a successful organisation of the annual PQ / LSBU Conference - “Tomorrow's World – a brighter future for accountants?”, on, 24 November 2021. Hundreds of people attended the national conference which discussed the: rise of FinTech, impact of COP26 on the accountancy sector and how the pandemic has put finance at the heart of the NHS. The editor of PQ Magazine, Graham Hambly, stated Usha had received a number of supportive nominations for ‘Lecturer of the Year - Public Sector’ award.

Usha Mistry won the PQ Magazine Editor's Special Award after being nominated for the ‘Lecturer of the Year - Public Sector’ award by LSBU staff, students and Bloomsbury Institute for:

  1. Enabling students to deliver presentations at conferences on accounting education and employability. These included a presentation on 26 January 2021 on ‘Embedding awareness of employability skills in the accounting degree through CIMA Business Game’ at the CIMA Research Webinar. A LSBU student Santos Silva Alves shared her experiences of her NHS Finance placement.
  2. Providing excellent inclusive education with highly rated module evaluation by students which led to CIMA Global champion award wins for teaching excellence and employability excellence: CIMA Global Champion (Influential lecturer) 2021 Teaching Excellence Award, CIMA Global Bronze Award 2021 Employability Excellence Award and CIMA Campus Culture Excellence Award Global Champion 2021.
  3. Presenting excellent teaching practices at conferences including the: CIMA Research Webinar on 26 January 2021 on  “Embedding awareness of employability skills in the accounting degree through CIMA Business Game” and the LSBU Learning and Education conference between 18-20 January 2021 on “Importance of social networking for tomorrow’s accountants”.
