Professor Simon Philbin, Director of the Nathu Puri Institute for Engineering and Enterprise in the School of Engineering at LSBU, has started his term as the 2019/20 President of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). The Society, which has its origins in the United States but also has international members and sections, is focused on advancing the discipline of engineering management.
Professor Philbin recently attended the ASEM International Annual Conference (IAC) held in Philadelphia, where his official duties as President commenced. While at the conference he attended the ASEM board of directors meeting and also found time to present a research paper with colleagues from USA on engineering education, skills and industry alignment.
Professor Philbin commented: “It is an honour to be serving as the President of ASEM. The Society is focused on developing the tools, techniques and knowledge to help with the management of people and projects in technology driven organisations. Across the world there are many challenges, such as realising the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, as well as opportunities through developing innovative technologies related to Industry 4.0. ASEM and the subject of engineering management is well positioned to help people tackle these important objectives."
