LSBU welcomes delegation from University of Alabama and Tuscaloosa County
LSBU hosted a delegation of representatives from the University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa County on 16 July to discuss a collaboration across various sectorsThe representatives of the University of Alabama included the Vice-Chancellor for government relations, Vice-President for Research and the Dean of College of Engineering.
The purpose of the visit was to study the research and development expertise available at LSBU and discuss potential collaboration between the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa County and London South Bank University for research, education and training.
The attendees were also joined by the Mayor of the city of Tuscaloosa and Mr Anil Puri, Chairman of Purico Group, a multi-national group of companies based in Nottingham. Purico Group is in the midst of a major investment in Tuscaloosa County, currently working on an industry development.
LSBU is also in discussions with the global company with a view of developing a proposal that brings together LSBU, the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa and industry.
Professor Rao Bhamidimarri, Executive Dean in Engineering, Science and the Built Environment commented:
"Partnership between the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa County and LSBU offers exciting opportunities for both collaborative applied research and professional education. The discussions were very productive and have already led to commercial opportunities for LSBU in robotics for non-destructive testing.
"There are other potential enterprise opportunities in areas such as radar based motion detection for energy management applications and patient monitoring in hospitals".London South Bank University is committed to continue developing academic and industry partnerships that will further enrich and improve our students' experience.
