LSBU student at World Congress of Performance Analysis in Sport
For many of us here in London, summer 2012 was a summer of sport - that was certainly the case for Donald BuchananDonald followed up the completion of his MSc Sports Science in June with a presentation of his undergraduate research work at the four-yearly World Congress of Performance Analysis in Sport, held at Worcester University. His poster session on notational analysis of football was very well received, and that was followed up by an invitation to write a short chapter for the conference proceedings.
Conference done, Donald was off to the Olympics as a Games Maker at the weightlifting events. Donald's recreational interest in weightlifting prompted him to set up LSBU's weightlifting club, the OWLs, and to develop the club's activities by seeking funding from Sport England. Games Making was both a welcome opportunity to participate in the Olympic events and also to observe weightlifting training of the highest standard.
Then – more sport. After the Olympics, Donald began his year's internship as a football analyst with League One Stevenage Football Club.
"Donald's enthusiasm, creativity and longstanding focus on football analysis have served him well," said his project supervisor John Seeley, Dept of Applied Sciences. "He is right on a track for a career as a professional sports analyst."
