LSBU Pro Vice-Chancellor Phil Cardew moves to next challenge
After eight years at London South Bank University (LSBU), Professor Phil Cardew is returning to the city where he was awarded his PhD in the early 1990'sProfessor Cardew is stepping down as LSBU's Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and Education), and will join Leeds Beckett University - previously Leeds Metropolitan - as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on 1 April 2015.
Professor Cardew joined LSBU in 2006 and holds a first class BA (Hons) English from the University of Southampton and a PhD from the University of Leeds. Prior to his role at LSBU, he was Assistant Vice-Chancellor at the University of Winchester and worked extensively for the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in the UK, as well as undertaking institutional review activity in Oman and Australia.
Most recently, Professor Cardew has been pivotal in LSBU signing a Memorandum of Understanding with multinational technology and consulting company IBM to offer students exposure to cutting-edge thinking and practices from the world of business and technology.
Professor Cardew said: "My time at LSBU has been extremely rewarding and I am very proud of the work the University has done in order to enhance the experience of students and, in particular, to provide better facilities for student support. It will be a great pleasure to join the team at Leeds Beckett, and I am looking forward to re-establishing my relationship with the city where I had three happy years in the early '90s."
