LSBU National Bakery School student reaches the 2014 Baking Industry Awards finals
LSBU Baking Technology Management student has been nominated for the Baking Industry Awards 2014, an award recognising industry excellence since 1987The Awards, which are run by British Baker magazine, are attended by over 800 key industry executives from across the bakery business, with prizes awarded across 11 categories.
Bath local, Hannah Conneely, 23, has been nominated for the highly regarded Rising Star award and is up against two other hopeful contestants. The award gives entry level bakers, students, trainees and individuals who have entered the bakery trade in the past three years, the chance to demonstrate how they can make a real difference to the baking industry by developing new products, implementing new ideas or generating new business.
Hannah said "I applied for the awards because only one young baker can be awarded the Rising Star award annually. I thought that even if I became a runner up for the award, it would still be a great title to have and would really help me further my career in baking."
Having attended LSBU's prestigious National Bakery School, the oldest bakery school in the world, and clocking up hours of baking and cake crafting, it looks like Hannah has a high chance in winning the award."
"I've always been interested in baking. Originally I had planned to study Art at university, so after a year-long course, I realised that Art was a big passion of mine but incorporating it with something else I really love doing – namely baking - would be so much more satisfying."
"Once I began my studies at LSBU's National Bakery School, I knew I had made the right decision in my career choice and it gave me the confidence to go out and work with a range of bakeries."
The nomination process, which is open to bakery trainees and students, include a series of applications. The successful first stage applicants are short-listed to a group of 10-15 candidates who are then interviewed. After this stage, three finalists are chosen to attend the Baking Industry Awards in September where the winner is announced.
Comedy star Hugh Dennis, best known for his comedy roles in sitcom Outnumbered and panel show Mock the Week, will lead the ceremonies at this year's awards on Wednesday, 10th September at the Park Lane Hilton London.
