LSBU apprentice wins Apprentice of the Year for second time

13 November 2025

A London South Bank University (LSBU) apprentice has been named Apprentice of the Year at the 2025 Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards – her second such accolade in a year.

Isha Ahmed, architectural assistant apprentice at WW+P Architects, was selected for the top prize among 152 shortlisted apprentices across the UK. She was also the apprentice winner in the Construction Services category of the awards.

Award judges praised Isha's “trailblazing work in architecture and tireless advocacy for diversity, mentorship and apprenticeship funding [as embodying] the transformative spirit of the Awards.” They also highlighted how her achievements reflect the power of high-quality apprenticeships, commending LSBU for creating an environment where apprentices like Isha can thrive.

“This award means so much to me. It recognises not just my hard work, but also the value of apprenticeships in creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds,” said Isha.

“As a British Bengali woman in architecture, this pathway made a career in the industry accessible to me. I hope my journey helps inspire others to see that it’s possible for them too.”

Isha's win reflects both her individual excellence and the strength of LSBU’s apprenticeship model. It comes after she won Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Master Certificate Awards in March.

Dedication and leadership in architecture

Isha has shown skill, dedication and leadership in the architecture sector. Her portfolio reflects strong technical know-how and a clear understanding of design, sustainability and how architecture can serve communities. She’s played a key role in major projects at WW+P Architects, where she’s known for being reliable, creative and taking full ownership of her work.

Outside of her job, Isha is passionate about making architecture more inclusive. She mentors future apprentices, helps with school outreach and speaks openly about why representation matters in the built environment sector.

A leading provider of apprenticeships

Isha’s award is a major achievement - not just for her, but also for her employer and LSBU. It highlights how apprenticeships can help build diverse talent pipelines and reinforces LSBU’s reputation as a leading provider.

Her success reflects the strength of LSBU’s apprenticeship programme, which combines hands-on experience with academic learning. Apprentices benefit from strong employer partnerships, structured support from mentors and course teams, and a clear focus on professional behaviours and industry readiness. This approach helps apprentices develop quickly and confidently, preparing them for long-term success in their careers.

A decade of impact

Now in its 10th year, the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards celebrate outstanding apprentices from diverse backgrounds, along with the employers, training providers and institutions that support them.

The awards highlight talent, resilience and achievement within multicultural communities, showcasing how apprenticeships help individuals overcome challenges and reach their goals.
