Huge success for South Bank Colleges as Ofsted award ‘Good’ grade

04 May 2022

South Bank Colleges (Lambeth College and London South Bank Technical College) has been graded by Ofsted as ‘Good’, following an inspection in March 2022. The new grade highlights huge success of South Bank Colleges staff and students after Ofsted inspectors described our students as being 'ambitious to achieve well in their studies' and praised our tutors for ‘bringing their lessons to life’ and ‘knowing their subjects well’.

In February 2012 Lambeth College received an ‘Inadequate’ grade from Ofsted, followed by a ‘Requires Improvement’ grade in 2019. Ofsted’s April 2022 grade is first time Lambeth College has moved upwards in the overall Ofsted rankings to ‘Good’ since it joined LSBU Group in 2019.

Lambeth College has 6,000 students based in Clapham and Brixton, studying a range of vocational and basic skills courses including Maths, English, Construction, Health, Engineering, Science and Creative & Digital skills. South Bank Colleges is made up of Lambeth College and London South Bank Technical College and is part of the LSBU Group, a unique partnership including London South Bank University (LSBU), South Bank University Academy (11-19 year olds) and South Bank UTC (14-19 year olds). LSBU Group gives students opportunities to study, learn new skills and achieve a degree.

Fiona Morey, South Bank Colleges Executive Principal, said: “Our Ofsted Good grading is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Lambeth College’s staff who work tirelessly to support our students who describe, ‘the college as a family, of which they are privileged to be a part. This is a reflection of the high standards Lambeth College has in all it does and its commitment to playing a central role ensuring access to high quality education for people that live, work and learn in south London. I am incredibly proud of the positive impact Lambeth College has on our student’s lives and we are all committed to continuing our hard work to give every student new opportunities to learn, develop and succeed. We are looking forward to welcoming students to our new college – London South Bank Technical College, opening at Nine Elms in September.”

Professor David Phoenix, London South Bank University (LSBU) Vice-Chancellor and LSBU Group Chief Executive, said:" Lambeth College’s new ‘Good’ Ofsted rating is a demonstration of the huge improvements that have been made to enable students to learn new skills and build successful careers. It’s real credit to the commitment and dedication of college staff who are delivering high standards for their students. We are committed to giving Lambeth College students new opportunities to gain advanced qualifications, including degrees and apprenticeships, thanks to our LSBU Group partnership and in September are opening the new £45million London South Bank Technical College in Nine Elms.”
