London South Bank University (LSBU) has just been announced as a finalist in this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) Leadership and Management Awards, in two categories:

  • Outstanding Student Services Team
  • Outstanding Financial Performance

Commenting on the good news, Professor Shan Wareing, LSBU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, said: “We have been shortlisted in recognition of our very successful ‘Students as Partners’ project, which staff and students contributed to, right across the University. This project proved to be extremely effective in helping us to achieve an 85% reduction in unresolved appeals reaching the final university stage.

“On top of this achievement, it is the icing on the cake to be recognised among our peers by the Times Higher Education awards.”

Richard Flatman, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Finance and Management Information (FMI) at LSBU said: “This is really good news for FMI as it’s the second time in three years that we have been shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Finance Performance’ category at the Times Higher Education awards.

“Our bid centres around an ambitious five-year transformation plan to optimise travel spend which will help us to deliver on the University’s corporate goals while allowing us to provide enhanced levels of support to students and staff.

“Our bid was led by Penny Green, Head of Procurement within LSBU’s Finance and Management Information team, but is a truly cross University scheme with input from Health and Safety, Marketing and Communications and our Executive management and International student relations teams."

The awards dinner and presentation ceremony will take place on Thursday 22 June 2017 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane. It promises to be a spectacular event with over 1,000 guests expected to be in attendance including politicians, senior sector figures and academic and professional services staff from universities across the UK.
