Anwar Tabali, a nursing student at London South Bank University (LSBU), has been named top student in the children’s nursing category at this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards ceremony, held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Friday 29 April 2017.

The judges described Anwar as a “passionate, enthusiastic and empathetic student” who challenged practice to “make care better for both children and their families”.

On receiving his award, Anwar said: “I got in to nursing to help young people and their families. I love the feeling you get when you know you have made a real difference in someone's day. It's really amazing to have been nominated, then shortlisted and then go on to win an award.

“It's really gratifying to receive recognition for the huge effort I put in during my work placement. A huge thanks must go out to all my fellow student nurses at London South Bank University who have helped me over the years, plus the academic staff and lecturers, my mentors and the team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.”

Warren Turner, Dean of LSBU’s School of Health and Social Care said: “This is fantastic news. Anwar’s award is testament to the high calibre of nursing students and high quality teaching LSBU produces every year.”

Other awards presented on the night included student nurses of the year for adult nursing, learning disabilities and mental health.

The judges said the “breadth of educational approaches and clinical authenticity was incredible".
