Time: 12.30 - 14.00 Professor Martin Knapp, London School of Economics and Political Science, Kings' College London, Institute of Psychiatry and NIHR School for Social Care Research will be facilitating. In this seminar, Martin will introduce the style of evaluation referred to as 'cost - benefit analysis', in which the researchers try to attach a monetary value to the outcomes. This is tricky, but there has been some success, and some partial such analyses. He will give illustrations from work that his team has done on mental health promotion and mental illness prevention. The second part of the seminar will argue that researchers can give decision makers considerable assistance by looking at variations in outcome, cost and the relationship between the two for different sub - groups within the population, for example through carrying out analyses of cost and outcome variations. From 9.15am - 4.00 pm. Arjen Wals is a Professor of Social Learning and Sustainable Development at Wageningen University, Netherlands. He also is a UNESCO Chair in the same field. His research focuses on learning processes that contribute to a more sustainable world. Michaela Crimmin, Royal College of Art and formerly Head of Arts at the RSA a role that included initiating and directing the RSA Arts & Ecology Centre. This five-year programme supported, promoted and debated artists responses to current environmental challenges. Her ongoing research explores the relationship between the arts and environmental issues and their social ramifications. We are seeking papers on the conference theme of core competences with an emphasis on one or more of the following: - Researching and sharing practice in teacher education - Enabling innovation and creativity in the teacher education and school curriculum and pedagogy - Meeting new challenges for ESD/GC in a changing world - Developing competences through subjects
