About this event
LSBU is where a lifelong passion for technology started for Silicon Valley CEO Tony Bates, who today leads Genesys, a $2 billion global experience orchestration software company. Bates returns to LSBU in December to share stories with students and alumni about his path from South Bank to the world’s tech hub and to discuss with Engineering faculty how AI and other transformational technology trends are redefining how the world’s biggest brands are connecting with their customers and employees.

This December, LSBU welcomes back to campus Tony Bates, Chairman and CEO of $2 billion Silicon Valley software company Genesys, former CEO of Skype and former President of GoPro, as well as former senior executive at Cisco and Microsoft. Nearly 40 years ago, Bates found his calling for transformative technology while apprenticing as a mechanical engineering student in the LSBU mainframe computer room.
In his first visit since leaving South Bank in 1986, former student, Tony Bates will share his story of helping first to architect, then to lead Fortune 500 companies as they navigate the Internet that today powers the world’s economy. Afterwards, LSBU Engineering faculty will sit with Bates for a fireside chat to discuss the latest in emerging technology trends that will shape the future of business.
In-person attendees will receive copies of Bates’ Wall Street Journal-bestselling book Empathy in Action with opportunities to have the book signed.
